It begins with a cast reunion — squeals and hugs — and ends as a camera pulls away to reveal the back of Ms. Buntain retains all of her sweetness yet also shows her guts. Then, she was all legs and arms — part cat burglar, part beatnik — using her gangly grace and formidable gaze to pull the viewer deep within her restless mind. In the farewell dance, which reprises part of that number, Ms. Telles wears a pale blue dress; her anger is tinged with sadness and a hint of fragility. No longer just a bunhead, she is a ballerina. But what if Ms. The dances are already choreographed. The stellar cast, after all, featured the Broadway veterans Ms.

E09 The Breaking Pointe season finale shouldn’t have worked. It telegraphed everything and took forever about it, it contrived multiple angles on soapy shots in storylines that didn’t need it, and most of it took place in Malibu, sans Wendy’s liverwurst hair and Adam’s scarves, so it’s going to score pretty low on the typicality scale. Because a lot of those typical things really annoyed me, honestly, and the fact that stupid Jonathan is out of the picture and Rex stealth-awesomed his way into favorite-dancer status is a good thing, net.

Did the finale do anything particularly Pointe-y? Let’s check the stats. Breaking Pointe-y Element Present? Those petite girls only seems to be tender and sweet, but deep inside their souls look more like alligators ready to eat each other in order to get a best role. However, even in this harsh world of pure competition is the place for glimpse of love. This is a story of dance-themed reality docu-drama Breaking Pointe, a new CW series featuring seven ballet stars in their everyday life and job.

CW photo Premiering; Thursday, May 31st at 7 p. So subtract all but the thinnest veneer of dramatic tension from The CW’s Breaking Pointe, an unscripted summer series about young Salt Lake City-based pointy toes and their very benevolent artistic director. It all adds up to Wan Lake, based on the premiere episode sent for review.

Ballet West has given the producers and their camera wielders unprecedented behind-the-scenes access for six weeks, viewers are told. It’s not exactly heart-stopping stuff, with seven dancers spotlighted in addition to bossman Adam Sklute, whose edge gets no rougher than the observation that young Rex Tilton occasionally “lets his personal life interfere with his professional work. There are hints that lead, tenured dancer Christiana Bennett might be somewhat threatened by year-old rising star Beckanne Sisk.

But it seems more as though she’s been instructed to briefly don a few semi-pouty looks rather than muster them on her own. All except Christina — who has a minimum two-year guarantee — supposedly are deeply worried about “Contracts Day,” in which dancers learn whether they’ll be part of the Ballet West company.

Many viewers were up in arms over the “lack of dancing” and portrayal of Beckanne Sisk, whose talent certainly overrides any onscreen miscommunications with her boyfriend. Despite high ratings, viewers seem unconvinced this is the best demonstration of ballet in the pop culture world: They want more variations, less body shots though I personally find showing both an inspired choice. Despite the upheaval, Breaking Pointe’s controversy was largely typical: Viewers debated, dancers defended, dance writers posted reviews that were fence-riding.
